Can I use travel trailer while still coupled to tow vehicle?

On rare occasions I would leave our TT hitched overnight and drop the stabilizers. I no longer do this as I discovered that the air suspension on our Expedition will on occasion turn on and inflate, or even deflate with the ignition off and the key removed. This put undesirable stress on the stabilizers. According to the Expedition manual this is normal operation.
