Coming Back Home

I am not sure if folks remember me, but I'm back home after a long hiatus from RVing. A lot has happened since I last posted in the original Open Roads Forum, so I'll reintroduce myself.

My name is Lou and I was the moderator for the Beginning RVing and Tent Camping areas the Open Roads Forum (rv.net) from 2001 to 2020. I see from my profile that my previous membership to the form is still active (has it really been 25 years?).

I originally lived in Southern California (Camarillo) and towed a 2000 Fleetwood Mallard with a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pick up. My wife and I enjoyed the RV lifestyle and traveled many miles on the open road prior to 2020.

With pending retirement and COVID we decided to downsize, so we sold just about everything, including the RV and truck and our home of 35 years and moved to Northern Colorado (just east of Fort Collins) where we now live.

We've been setting up our "forever" home and I've been settling into retirement for the past few years. Now that we're established, we're looking to get back into RVing, so we attended a number of shows and visited a number of dealers this year to see what's out there.

All I can say is... wow. It looks more like "glamping" with all the bells and whistles that are available and, as before, it's hard to decide but with 20 years of RV experience, we actually are in a better position shopping than where we were with our first purchase in 2000, but that said we feel like "newbies" again.

So, we're researching. I'm still partial to fifth-wheels, but my wife is open to just about anything from travel trailer to Class A. We'll see what the future holds, but in the meantime...

It's nice to be back.

Lou

  • Welcome Lou, I'm glad you're back. I always have mixed emotions when a long time member decides to pursue other endeavors. On the one hand I'm glad they are doing something that they are more interested in. And at the same time it's almost feels like saying good bye to a good friend. So I for one am glad you're back.

  • What’s your point?  Was this addressed to someone you know who you forgot to talk to for the last 5 years?

My "point" is that, based on the original forum rules, when an account was created or renewed, that an introduction (or reintroduction in my case) was part of participating as a member of the "Open Roads Forum."

As a returning member, while the forum rules apparently were not brought forward to this new host given when I clicked on "Code of Conduct" below, it took me to a "wrong turn page".

Given that I was a moderator, I knew the "code" which was as follows (from the original rv.net which one can find via wayback.com:

Also, given that I have received a number of DMs from fellow members, including some of the current moderators yes, I am back in contact with a number of fellow RVers, so I'll respond to your post with "Happy to make your acquaintance Grit_dog, and I sincerely hope to meet you and share a cup of coffee at a campfire while on the Open Road."
