IMO you sound like you have a stable job/life, save for the tradgedy in the past which I am very sorry to hear.
I would second the motion to do some traveling this summer and "get away" for a bit.
I would not reccomend full timing with a little one and being single. Have a couple good friends who are very adventurous and doing exactly that with their families, home school and all. Both of them have tired of the "adventure" because camping should be a vacation and the "new" wears off and then it becomes just living along with the additional responsibilities and concerns that come with living in a mobile box.
Sounds like you just need a change of scenery combined with a cost of living decrease! Getting away from the PNW, while beautiful, lived here for 5 years now, may really help.
Not only waaaay better places for good weather, but again the change of scenery.
Being able to work remotely means whatever you are surviving on in expensive Portland will go further somewhere cheaper to live.
We've lived in many parts of the country, Midwest, north woods, Rockies, southwest, PNW and Alaska. While we have never moved to "escape" anything, just a lot of work transfers with my job, moving to a new locale automatically puts a fresh perspective on almost everything.
Of all those locations, my opinion of the best combo of weather, cost of living, outdoors, escaping the city and culture is New Mexico.
Again, slugging thru the rain, hippies and hipsters this winter in Seattle, lol, somewhere with sun is AWESOME!
Sorry not advice about RVing but that's my 2 cents. And best of luck to you!!!
