A lot people keep answering the question they want to answer and not the question I asked. That's OK, but just so every one is aware, I'm only trying to get a comparison on the cost. And I know you have to consider a tow vehicle if you choose a trailer.
One possible reason for this is that I'm not sure your question can be answered with the limited information we have about both your needs and what options you are considering like size. The possibilities are endless. Used, new, size, brand, motorhome or trailer with 100's of styles and shapes between the two. Give us two VERY specific options like a used 1998 Jayco 24 foot class C entry level motorhome VS. a New 2017 F350 pulling a new 2017 30 foot Airstream and we'll be able to give you a better cost comparison. You are asking us to compare apples to oranges and they don't.
Some seamingly irrelevant answers you have received like "security" and "convenience" can become "costly" to an RV owner if not considered. I have seen many folks buy one RV and trade it in for another RV in less than a year because they weren't happy with their first choice. How you plan to use it and your existing budget are perhaps the most important factors and will also determine the price comparison.
