I tend to be pretty social. I find it can go either way with people sometimes. If I see someone or something interesting, I will try to strike up a conversation. Some folks like to chat, others seem more aloof. I almost always try to make friends with campground neighbors.
Last year while stopped at a KOA for a few nights, we had a site neighbor who was an older man on a Goldwing towing a tentcamper. I tried as best I could to break the ice with him, but he was virtually impenetrable. Finally toward the end of the stay, we reached some common ground and had an excellent chat around the fire with plenty of cocktails to go around. We had a lot of fun sharing stories well into the night. I was looking forward to getting to know him more, and the following morning he had broken camp and was gone by the time we woke up. Never mentioned he was pulling out the following morning. Oh well.
I think it is what you make of it. If you seem friendly and approachable without being overbearing, you will make a lot of acquaintances. If you seem aloof or reserved, you will probably experience more solitude.
My policy is to enjoy great conversation with those who respond in kind, and mind the gap with those who want their privacy.
