Daytime headlights

Both of my vehicles (2004 Toyota Tundra and 2003 Subaru Outback H6-3.0) have automatic-off headlights. The Tundra turns off the headlights when the driver's door opens (after ignition is off, of course). The Subaru turns off the headlights when the ignition is off. I never turn the headlight switch off on either vehicle.

We call daytime headlight use our "magic shield", it protects us by making us a little more noticable.

DRL do not turn on tail lights, only head lights.

I live in an area where there is lots of fog in the winter and DRL are mandatory. Quite a few people forget to turn on their head lights thus turning on their tail lights in the fog. Even in day light it is important to have your tail lights on when it is foggy, otherwise you may be rear ended.

My 2000 GMC 1500 has DRL's (day time running lights) so they are on when I start the vehicle and off when I shut the ignition off!
Our car does not have DRL's, so I drive with the head lights ON.
If I fail to shut the lights off when I shut the motor off, I get a ding-ding sound that is letting me know the light's are still ON. Then I just reach over to the light switch and OFF they are!

On my new "13 Navastar school bus if you have not turned on the head lights before, when you turn on the wipers as in to remove dew, all the lights come on, head,tail, clearance. They stay on till you turn the key off. Other wise I only have DLR lights and clearance on, no tail lights.

Yep... safety first...
Some States now have new laws... when your wipers are turned ON... your headlights must also be ON.

Long time back Grayhound did a survey on busses running with headlights in daytime and the results were a BIG accident reduction. IMHO this may have started the rules on DRL's.

We have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Toad... with a battery disconnect, no battery drain while tow’d on the hwy. The wiring from our RV powers the Jeep lights etc. We always run with lights on. Safety first...

If someone can see your towed lights while driving down the road...they are way too close. If keeping the lights on during the day on your tow vehicle runs the battery down, what do you do at night?

Simple:
Driving the MH turn the headlights ON (easier to be seen)
Towing the Jeep....leave the Jeeps headlights OFF (no value having them on)

Driving the Jeep turn them ON (easier to be seen)

Canada requires daylight running lights. Not fully required in the states.
