Dealers and Used Trailers...

Hello, I purchased a used trailer 2 weeks ago...
before signing contract.. I provided a check list to salesman..
and was willing to pay for the extra inspection...

anyway... after trailer was at home.. I started to see my check list and the trailer work did not match...

all tanks were to be dumped and cleaned.. this did not happen..
then noticed the name on the check list was also the one that was to do the wheel bearing and brake check.

I pulled wheels and drums... 2 axle unit.
1 brake had NO brake lining.. just rusty shoes.
2 others had delaminated linings....
1 checked out OK..

3 phone calls... and then showing up at dealer...with Photos ...

3 days later all 4 brake systems .. were replaced for free..

end of RANT/Story... have a check list before signing a deal, require the service person sign each line item when completed...

So at then end of the Day.. I have a trailer ready for a long vacation..
items replaced by dealer on my Coachman Cascade 29FKCS in the past 2 weeks
both #30 propane tanks
1 deep cycle battery and battery box.
4 stage charger
4 sets of brakes and wiring.
complete cleaning inside and out..
3 roof vents.

Yes I had to return trailer back to dealer for brakes..
but NO charge...

this does restore my Trust somewhat in dealers.

Thank You for reading my story/Issues..
but if you are New and looking for USED.. make a list .. ask questions
and stand by your rights.. to question the work if needed.

  • I don't know if that would restore my trust in that particular dealer. I think it means he just got caught and had to make things right.
  • Congrats on your TT.
It's good to hear you got the problems repaired. It also appears the dealer had no intention of repairing anything, until they were backed into a corner.

Definitely have everything repaired/replaced before giving them any money.
    Enjoy your travels.
