Dealing with moisture in the fridge

We've been propping the fridge and freezer open after each trip when we return the RV to storage, only to find that the next day, there is tons of condensation. Obviously, we don't want this due to concerns about humidity/mold/bad karma, but what do we do about it? I've heard about laying down towels/paper towels/newspaper, but even if they catch the water initially, I have to believe that the Florida heat will evaporate the water into the trailer in short order. So it seems that all we can do is return the next day and wipe it up and take the wet paper towels with us.

What do you folks do?

  • Wad up a bunch of newspapers (think the Sunday paper) and put a bunch of it in the fridge and leave the door open. There should be a pin by the latch that you can extend to ensure that the door doesn't shut all the way (if you're parked at a slight angle)

You DO remember to turn the refer OFF.. right? :)

If the fridge is ambient temp, I see no reason there should be any condensation there.
  • Check with your local Camping World or RV store. They make something just for that. Also, i think you RV needs better venting. You know, cold air meets warm, and you get condensation. I leave my fridge door open and the roof vent on to move the air around in the unit, but i'm not in Fla., and we don't get that kinda heat as you do.
