A few years ago, I downloaded the actual law concerning the pumping of fuel in Oregon, and what I found is that the law specifically says "gas", it says nothing about diesel. I have filled up a few times in Oregon and when the attendant came out, I told him/her I have a diesel and I am going to pump it myself and all I ever got from them was "no problem".
The law does not mention diesel at all, and that is because of all the truckers that pump their own fuel at truck stops. If I ever had a problem at the diesel pump at a station where they insisted on pumping my fuel, I would tell them, "sorry, I am not going to get fuel here then, I am going to go to the truck stop where I can pump it myself."
