Do newer generators need to exercise regularly?

I used to own a 15 years old Onan 4000. I was told to run it once a month to keep it healthy. I now own a newer model (around 3 years old). I thought technology probably improves a lot in 12 years. Do...

Is this a newer Onan 4KY to replace the old 4KY? If so, the basic design has not changed to any significant extent--just some minor tweaks over the years. The maintenance schedule would be pretty much the same since the generator design is pretty much the same.
