Hotels, a hotel room, really? :R
Just kidding, I could care less where you park. Or it may fit your plans perfectly.:)
You should probably figure that that is a discounted Vegas price, though. If you pack up and move out the next day to say, Phoenix, you may be paying $100/night for a room. That's what I paid last month so it may be accurate.
I'm kind of getting a feel for what you're about with this traveling/camping experience going across country. I'm guessing you want to see some of the grandeur/interest that is the US and want to do it on a budget. Camping is your way of accomplishing the goal and not of itself, the primary goal. Stop me if I'm getting far afield, here.
I would suggest you concentrate on your initial method, the purchase of a minivan for transport and camping accoutrements, secondly. In that vein, start looking at private party ads for late model minivans and not a cargo van. The risk of buying a used cargo van is that it was used in a trade, maybe by a tradesman that never owned it. He may have cared less about how he drove it (bells to the wall) or thought it was a mobile pipe rack. A soccer mom's use will be much more gentle. The later model Chrysler van with "Stow and Go" is a good target. I used one for awhile and it ran fine on E-85, even though it wasn't certified for it.
For using the minivan as your base for camping, I'd start with an air mattress and a thin foam topper for sleeping, easy to store and won't break the bank. Refrigeration could be an ice chest, using block ice for long term storage and one of the cheap Peltier plug-in coolers for everyday chilling. The addition of a tent, four-square type enclosure, or whatever foldable outdoor room you like would be my next add-on, or not, depending on how much you wished to carry.
Anyway, easy for me to plan your vacation but maybe some of those ideas will work for you. Good luck with the travels!
