Actually, most times, it's the owner projecting what the breed is supposed to be.
A lot of pitbull owners want a big tough dog...guess what the dog figures that out and does what the owner wants.
We have friends who run a pitbull rescue and their family dogs are the sweetest things...but they are properly trained and they don't accept any aggression.
