About 12 years ago a wise RV saleslady (there ARE such things) told us to consider our first RV a "training trailer" and to buy a quality, relatively small, used unit to learn on.
"Use it for a couple of years. Write down what you like, what you dislike, and what drives you crazy. Learn to turn corners and learn to back it in. Visit shows and dealer lots. Talk to neighbors at RV parks. Most will be happy to show you what they like about their trailers."
Then, if you want new trailer smell on your second trailer, you will know what to look for in a floor plan, features, size and other decision points and will be able to make the best use of your purchase money.
We are now on out third fifth wheel (and second truck). The first was a 5 year old Cameo; the second a new Outback; and the present one an orphan Titanium. (Technically used because of the Glendale bankruptcy sale, but never before titled.)
As far as we can tell, the titanium will be out last RV purchase.
