Extra Fridge

I would like to get either a 12 volt cooler or a 12 volt fridge to keep in the car when travelling to supplement the fridge in the Travel Trailer.. That way we could have cold stuff available as we drive then we could plug it in the camper when we are set up..

Any suggestions??

Thanks, Joe
  • Coleman and a lot of others are thermalelectric, not real refers. They are lucky to be good for 20 degrees less than outside temps. Granted, they are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Dometic is a compressor refer that will get down to and hold zero degrees with no problem

We've had a Coleman one for years and it has worked well. However it has a fan that can be annoying. It was great in the back of our minivan while traveling (there was a 12V outlet back there), but I wouldn't want it in the backseat for anything other than short trips.

Also we used it in motel rooms and would make sure it was located in the bathroom because of the fan.

Maybe they've gotten better, but thought you should know the downside. Also this style makes this inside of the unit about 20-degress cooler than the outside air.

I don't think 20 degrees less than outside air is gonna cut it.. Does anybody have a recommendation for a small fridge??

I'm going to look up the Dometic right now..

    Thanks, Joe

  • Coleman makes a good one that you can get at Walmart. 12 volt with an adapter for 120v....gets drinks real cold....no settings, just plug it in...
  • Dometic sells one in several sizes. We use one of the larger ones in our basement as a freezer. We can pack nearly a months worth of meat. It works off of 12VDC or 120VAC. I have ours set up to automatically switch when I unplug.
