We have a small class C, we do not have a toad. Never really saw a huge need to have one. I can break down the C and be ready to go in about 10 minutes.
It's the hassell of a tow car vs, the hassel of parking a C at a major attraction. ( like Yellowstone) With a 24, never really had much problem with parking.
Small C advantage, with out a toad, will get you into most any site, you can park pretty easy at stores and diners. You can explore back roads without fear of not being able to turn around
Disadvantage as you said, if you want to go sightseeing, or to the store you have to break it down.
Other thing you could do is a C then rent a car, at various locations
