There are way too many old geezers on this forum who have nothing to do and over analyze and over plan even a trip to the grocery. Having said that, you have enough time to plan and implement a trip.
You are right about the difference between the Class C and trailer with touring. If you plan to park and one spot for a few days, even a week or more and use that location as your base to explore, then a trailer with a tow vehicle may make more sense. If you will mostly be "windshield" touring, then the Class C will work well, too.
Consider your comfort level with either vehicle, as some find towing a trailer intimidating, and others find driving the mass of a motorhome difficult. carefully consider exactly how you will use and live in either RV to help decide which is best and what floor plan work best now and in the future.
Before you finally purchase, be sure to post your final decision, as many on here can give you good, solid advice. A common mistake is buying too much trailer and not enough truck, or too big of a motorhome.
Also, ignore the wise cracks!
