Rent something. If you have a suitable vehicle to be towed already, a class C probably makes more sense to rent and tow your current vehicle. Better yet, hotel it. Renting offers a lot of risk mitigation when things go wrong and you are unfamiliar with RVing.
Purchasing a new tow vehicle and TT is $60k+. Same with a MH. Then you have running costs of fuel, campsites, etc. And I agree, it is quite late to learn everything you need to learn about RVing, plan the trip and campgrounds, assuming your family will be happy for 3 months in 250sf of living space.
I don't know of a rental place that will let you tow a vehicle behind their MH. The costs of setting up a toad are not great for one time use and the choice of cars towable is not for all cars. We have had everything from popups to 38' MH and any of them are great with the family. We had a 27' C ( without a toad) with 2 children that we took to Glacier, Banff, and the area that worked great. While everyone was asleep I could drive for 100 miles before breakfast. You can't do that in a TT. Whatever you do will be great. Just make sure you don't buy more trailer than your vehicle can safely handle.
