fan speed control

I need a new fan speed control that goes on the range hood. The problem is I don't know exactly what that part is called so I have no idea what to search for haha. Any ideas?
  • Ahhh, search the model! Ok, I should have enough info now, thanks guys! It's a ventline. The speed controller thing I have now is just running at max speed, and it's sooo loud. I'll check for lose connections first.
  • and it's sooo loud

Come to think of it I don't think I've never heard a quiet one.
  • The exhaust flap needs the pressure of the air to keep it open. Whether it needs the full force of that fan is unknown to me. You may find you have to prop the vent flap open.
  • 2oldman suggested a PWM. I second that idea.

I use them on my cheap single speed Vortex fans and have full control forward and reverse. Much more control than even the high priced brands.
  • Just so others will know, I bought this:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-40V-Pulse-Width-Modulation-PWM-DC-10A-Motor-Speed-Control-Switch-13KHz-US-/111324607462?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19eb76b3e6

It is really nice. It can do any variation of speed EXCEPT off... So I'm going to have to hook up a toggle switch too. Not a big deal, but I just thought others might want to know that.
