Your Escape has a max tow capacity rating of 3500 lbs. In theory, it could if the driver only weighs 150 lbs, and he has no passengers or cargo.
In actuality, your max tow capacity is limited to the weakest link in your towing systems.
Your weak links are most likely payload and the hitch.
As you load people, pets, and cargo into the tow vehicle, it's available payload and max tow capacity are going down, pound for pound. If you put 500 lbs of people, pets, and cargo in the vehicle, it's max tow capacity would reduced to 3000 lbs, but, you may not have enough payload left to support the tongue weight from a 3000 lb trailer. Put 800+ plus pound in the vehicle, it may not have any payload available.

Finding a travel trailer that will stay under 3000 lbs (when loaded for camping), and sleep four adults, is going to be a real challenge.
