First RV - needing some sound advice please

Hello,

I am new to this forum and new to RV'ing (as in I dont have one yet)

I am looking to purchase an RV. More specifically a camper trailer.
I plan to haul this on my 2008 Ford Escape 3.0 V6 4x4. I understand the towing limits so I will be going for something small to start off with. This really will be for myself, my wife and my dog. And possibly 2 friends if room permits.

The questions I have is what should I be going for. A pop up or non pop up trailer. A single or double axle (whats the main differences)

I am handy with DIY so I plan on buying a cheaper trailer that needs TLC and do it up myself. What should I be looking out for here?

Any advice is greatly greatly appreciated as I am just starting off on this project.

Feel free to share any pics on people who have done their own work or bought a smaller trailer would love to see some other peoples creative work.

Thanks
Alan

  • Thanks Scott, never thought of that! We would be similar from that perspective. If its a hassle to put them up for quick rests/meals etc then maybe I will not look into pop ups

  • A pop-up would be easier to tow but is a bit more work. Before buying one I would rent one for a weekend.
We bought a brand new one only to find it wasn't the right kind of RV for us. Too much setup and no ability to use it at rest stops or for quick meals.
    But that was just us.
