Unless you are a desert dweller I am not a big fan of solar power. It costs alot of money for a decent system & an awful lot of gas can be bought for that money.
You already have a genny, a decent sized one too, so that is not an added expense. If you are going to invest in power, invest in amp hours. Using 12V batterys in parallel or 6V batterys in series does not matter. The amp hours are the amp hours available. If you want a better system lasting many trouble free years get AGM batterys.
In storage wet cell batterys will lose about 10% potential power per month just sitting there, no loads. AGM will discharge about 5% per month with no load.
I have an AGM. It sits in storage from Nov to April, no attention, no trickle charger. Nothing. Not connected. Cables removed from posts. Not removed from trailer. 4 years old now. Takes less than an hour to recharge after a 6 month storage.
So, if you are considering spending hundreds on solar, look at AGMs instead.
