First Time owner.

MY wife inherited a 1998 Coachmen Santara when her dad passed recently and we've just taken possession of it....it was being held pending payment for some electrical work. We know there are a few problems to take care of, (ordered a shroud for roof Ac unit, need to replace a window molding , etc) It seems to be in pretty good shape though. The electrical system seems to be spot on, I'm delving into the other stuff such as waste system, fridge, & stove.
I'm figuring first just make sure it's watertight and move on from there. There is evidence of an old leak or two, but no major damage and the roof has been resealed.
Sorry if I'm incorrect on any terminology, but we know nothing about RV's and I'm getting a crash course.
Any advice?
  • Our first MH was a Santara, with a diesel engine and a gas generator. Weird combo I know. Loved it. The dash a/c never worked right but the house air was fine. It had that old 200 or 220 Cummins engine. You had to run hard going down hill to make it up the next one. We knew nothing about RVs or camping for that matter. Our first trip was to a local lake with 30 amp and the coach had 50 amp. I ended up cobbling a connector to get power that first night.
We had more fun in that old coach, just two kids doing what we figured was going to cost a lot of money (it did !!!) but the memories and stories are worth so much more than the money we spent.
Enjoy your first coach. . . but also do as we did, get a better one when you get the hang of things. Have FUN.
  • Lots of good advice. as well......pictures go a long way in helping us with any issues or questions you have.
