First Timers

We first bought a used popup tent trailer in poor shape. Then a new one in 1992, which was loved until our youngest child grew up. Then we got a bit of motorhome fever when camping at our favourite BC park and visited a German couple next door who spent their months of maternity leave in North America, buying a used one in California and driving to Yukon and back. That MH looked really comfortable in the rain.

Water shortages are due to showering. We use campground showers and stop at swimming pools. Our water tank and waste tanks last 5 or 6 days for the two of us so we only need to find a dump and fill site every 5 days. We never hookup to water, sewer or electricity. One solar panel (100 watt) provides all the power we need. If you don’t have solar, I recommend a battery monitor that shows the per cent of full charge for the house batteries. LED lights make a big difference.

JMO!. Whatever you decide upon.....make your first RV, a used RV. It is highly probable, that with a year or two under your belt....you will discover what you want/need, and will be shopping again! Buying used, let’s the first buyer take the “big” depreciation hit! memtb

First things first.
Buy something used that your current truck can tow. That way, you'll find out how much room you really need/want, you'll figure out what you want in a floor plan--the most important consideration, IMHO--and you'll have a much better idea of what your truck is capable of.
Do that for a season, and you can sell your used TT for about what you paid, and go get the one you want.

Enjoying the good and accommodating the problems is always an adventure when anyone takes the road for the first time.

Stick around RV.net, and ask other RV'ers on the road while you learn your own limits and figure out what works for you and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We've ALL been there, DONE that ... tap into that experience and embrace that lifestyle. IT's big fun, small headaches. Good Luck

After doing more research and listening to all you helpful folks, we're rethinking our ideas. Still going to buy a TT...but clearly there are somethings we didn't consider fully.

Sorry to be brutal but trying to tow a 28'+ TT, with a Nissan Frontier is just dangerous for you and the public.
And with a fictional dry tongue weight of 610lbs, it will exceed your Frontier's max hitch weight when loaded for camping.
You need to look for something in the 20'-21' range or get a full size truck if you really want this TT.

So true, we bought our first used trailer 24 ft that we kept a total of 3 short trips and figured it was not fitting us very well. Listed it for sale and bought a new one that was the floor plan we should have bought first. Until you actually stay in it for a few times you really don't know. We made out well by buying the used one and getting more for it than we paid when we sold.
