First trip Excitement

Well finally got on the road. The weather was still lousy. First tow in new truck and new camper. Ram 1500 handled flawlessly. Never towed anything before. Have an equalizer hitch which I felt was great, even on the highway with Semis flying past me.

But did have some issues, all rookie mistakes. First we had no hot water, they did not fully explain the water shutoffs. Called CW and they helped us. Then in Cave City KY is got cold enough to freeze my water hose. Luckily that was all. Knew it was going to be cold so I popped for a heated hose (worked like a charm). Did not really care for the camp Yogi Bear. The sites were horribly uneven and got to set up my blocks.

Then the 3rd night at about 3am the furnace was out and I woke up to a 48 degree trailer. Well the person doing the walk through said I did not have to have the other propane tank open for the regulator to switch as needed. Well in hindsight that doesn't even make sense. So trekked out side and opened it up and it was all good.

Then final day in Ind it snowed! Well had to get the snow off the slide out and did not have a ladder or broom. The place we were at was great, Sugar Creek Campground in Crawfordsville Ind. The owner helped me out, he also helped me into a back in spot the day before. Will visit again.

Made it home drained the rv and actually cant wait to go again. I think the bugs are worked out now.

From what you report you had a very successful first trip. You can count on little things happening on every trip. But isn't camping fun? Get out and enjoy it every chance you get.
  • Sounds like a great trip! But seems I can always forget something at some time or another! I'm gonna guess its that CRS******creeping in! The more you go does help!
  • Yes I have not determined what format for the checklist yet but that is a must. My wife was the checklist when I tried to drive with the tongue jack down.

    Thanks

  • Make checklists as you learn how to do everything and then use them - it will save you a lot of hassle and time setting up and breaking down. They are fantastic for winterizing and de-winterizing as well since you don't do those as often as the daily camping setup and tear-down.

  • Sounds like a great time - you'll be pros at this in no time.

When we haven't been out for a while we do a little 'shakedown' trip (nearby, for the weekend) to get back into the groove and make sure we have everything in the RV that we need.
  • Great that you had a good time. Those things are going to happen even to the most experienced Rver. I would say your first outing was flawless.
