I'll try to turn a negative to a positve here because I see this thread spiraling in the wrong direction.
The OP asked the question on propane. I would say that the lesson learned here is that one should do an inspection of the flu and all the "open" access panels before heading out on the road and using propane. It is safe, but not maintenance-free.
