I would need to make $600 per 1000 miles. Is that even realistic?
Reverse engineer it a bit first. If you're now driving commercially you'll be restricted in terms of hours the same as any other commercial driver, it doesn't matter what you're driving.
If you use $0.50 / mile in fuel costs and 500 miles a day of driving. You will then have a maximum of $0.40 to $0.70 a mile to work with. That's $200 to $350 a day. But that's only one way, so if it's a 4 day drive out, it's a minimum 2 day bus ride back home for which you're not paid.
So using the 4 days out, 2 back, at $200 / day, that's $133.33 a day before you even pay any expenses. You'll want to eat, shower, etc. it also assumes you have zero downtime getting to / from bus terminal, waiting for a bus, etc., etc.
Doesn't sound like a person could net out at much above minimum wage.
