The wagonmaster that lead our caravan through Mexico was a professional driver - and as nice a guy that you'd ever want to meet.
He was an independent contractor - spent winters in Mexico as a paid guide.
For the summer he worked as a RV deliver/retrieval driver. The company paid him flight expenses to get the rig, he drove it to location. Not allowed to sleep, eat or smoke in it. Company paid lodging and meals.
The job seemed to be seasonal however. He did the Mexican wagonmaster thing but had to be back by early spring to start the other thing.
He seemed quite happy with the setup.
Thing is, once one is "in" a niche field like this it can become a full time in-demand job.
