golf cart

We frequent a campground that is literally overrun with golf carts. At times they are a nuisance. People drive their golf carts to the bathroom across from their sites. My friend has one and drives the golf cart to my site 100 feet away.

Walk or ride a bike it's cheaper and better for your health.

You might want to check out the cost of replacement batteries. My sister's bunch living at LakeWood - Myrtle beach owned one for a long time and it was a big expense every year it seems... Just like us with the RV batteries you have to replace them all at the same time... They finally went to renting one from the local provider near Lake Wood and saved a bunch of monies.

Some parks only allow electric though I think gas would be better as you wouldn't need to worry about a dead battery.

Gas or electric have there issues. A battery pack for a 36v cart will run you $600+ and will last you 5yrs IF you take care of them. Neighbors cart is a gas, and his clutch was bad, $500 later he's crusin again. Point being, either one can get costly.

I have a electric EZGO and like the quietness over a gas cart.
Some cart batteries may have a date stamp on one of the posts. the last # will be the date the batteries were made.

yup and insurance. If $50 to $75 a day is ok with you rent it. IF not buy a used one a decent one from a dealer is 2k if you look around you can probably find one cheaper private as long a they didn't go nuts customizing it. We bought ours cause Disney is $500 a week for a cart.

Have found that as mentioned above, many campgrounds only allow electric. Asked why at a few and it was to prevent ATV's from being ridden in the loops. Ban gas powered engines other than licensed vehicles and it took care of the problem they said.

Electric Carts will weigh more due to the batteries but is quieter and again, allowed about everywhere. If you have free electric hookups, your getting recharged free also.

Gas Carts are lighter and usually faster on unmodified carts but banned some places. Gas prices are never free and you need to haul gas cans if you extended stay anywhere for longer than the cart will go on it's tank of fuel.

Agreed $2000 seems to be the going price for the basic used cart and if you shop around, you can sometimes find on with the 2nd backward seat fold down flat bed for that price.

Just bought 6 new 8 volt Trojan batteries and installed them myself. $850. Good for 5-7? years if well maintained.

As before many campgrounds only allow electric, we bought a used cart from a dealer in NC the cart came used from New England (short golf season) came with new batteries, added a long roof, flip rear seat, wheel covers, new body, & more it was 4 years old paid $3000 has more than paid for itself in saved rental fees...... have had it 3 years no additional maintenance ($) as of yet. (Keep check of batteries) Do need to have at least liability insurance (about $50-100 annually). Toyhauler or trailer needed to get it there....... some states not legal to triple tow.......

Don't recommend getting a used one from an off rental place like at the beach that they are used daily & salt air..... Our again was from a New England Golf course with a short season.......

We bought our 2005 Club Car DS last year from Ocean Lakes at Myrtle Beach. It was from their rental fleet. The batteries were only a year old, which was a big plus to us. Unless you plan to change out the body soon, that is another thing to check. Otherwise, go from there, roof, wheels, tires, seats. Make sure lights work on it.

Most campgrounds will only allow electric. Ocean Lakes requires $50,000 liability insurance. We transported ours in the back of our F250 towing the TT. We removed the tailgate before doing so. You will have to check to see if you will have the clearance or not. Depends on where your front jack and propane tanks sit and how high. We put a 6" All Sports lift on our golf cart and big ger wheels and tires. When it sat in the back of the truck, the rear of it was high enough not to hit the jack.
