Hello

Just setting up an account for my daughter, who just bought an 83 Chevy G30 Transtar cutaway/conversion with the 6.2 diesel. I know I will be doing quite a bit of the restoration so I'll be here more than her, but its her toy and will be her home (what is with this tiny home thing?)
I had a longer intro post with pictures and all but the forum rejected it so this is all you get now till I can post up the images. Is there a minimum post limit for new members?
  • The forum does reject some posts with what it considers to be funky characters, and doesn't tell you that's the reason. Oddly enough, exactly what characters are allowed varies depending on exactly how you access it. If you come in via rv.net on an unsecured connection (http), for example, it will reject the percent sign, but it's okay if you use a secure connection (https) to rv.net. Some other more specialized characters are always rejected, like em and en dashes.

At any rate, if your post is rejected, it can often help to hunt down any characters that are the least bit odd or unusual.
  • Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of information and experience available so, don't hesitate to ask questions.

I don't think there is a limit on posting for new members. I don't think new members can post links because of the spammers. But, you can post pics.

Use the search block to search for 'posting pictures' or anything else, if you can't find it, just ask, someone will have the answer.

Enjoy your restoration and, keep us updated on your progress.
We'll be waiting for the pictures.
  • Champion Transtar was a series of van conversion motorhomes, some widened body, from the 1980s. Your best connections here may be the "B" motorhome - van conversion forum.

My connection with the Transtar is peripheral. One of the couples in our RV club found that they could no longer handle their big fifth wheel trailer after he got his head trampled by an angry cow, leading to a progressive dementia that eventually took his life. Trading the trailer for a 25 year old Transtar kept them coming to club campouts for another year, because she (recovering from stroke) could drive it, and setup was not much more than parking it. They left the bed set up as a bed, dined with the group in the club rooms, used campground restrooms.

Some folks have a problem with the 6.2 diesel, and I personally would rather havevthe 350 V8 in a Chevy van of this era, but I had a colleague who would have nothing other than that diesel.

To post pictures, they have to be hosted somewhere, you imbed a link, and limit the display size. Except for signature blocks, you can't imbed images in your posts.

There is a forum about using the forums called "Forum Technical Support." Technology here is sort of primitive, but because it is prmitive, it is mostly safe and reliable, though often slow.
