Since the TV is no longer attached to the hitch that is stuck, I would suggest the following:
1. Make sure the hitch release is fully disengaged. Drop it down and pull it up again.
2. Spray some WD-40 inside and drop and raise the release again.
3. Hit the hitch downward and slightly back (towards the trailer) with a mallet. Drop and raise the release again.
Repeat as necessary.
