HELP! What does this NEWB need?!

Hi all,
This thread will probably start some controversy as people weigh in. :)

I just towed home our new to us 2005 Starcraft 18SB. It is in excellent shape, still winterized and ready for use, but its completely empty and I dont know what I need. It literally doesn't even have a sewer hose as the previous owner kept it.

What should I be stocking this puppy with for our first adventure? Are there brands of accessories I should avoid like the plague? Please share anything and everything a I might need for our small family to enjoy our first trip.

thanks,
Jon
  • Congrats on your new RV! :C

Do yourself a real big favor out the gate and buy a Rhino Sewer Hose Kit. Kit has a great collapsible type sewer hose and 'all' the connections you will ever need for CG hookups and requirements.

Then find yourself RV dealerships in your area. They all have parts/supplies stores within the dealerships. You can pick up all the stuff you need there and not have to pay for internet shipping charges.
AND the best part is you can scope out all the 'RV stuff' that IS available all in one place with a clerk that can answer all your questions.

    Happy Camping!
  • 1.Go to Walmart or the local hardware store and get a water hose, a sewer hose, and a pressure regulator for the water.

2.Put some grub in the trailer, some plates/silverware, and a pot/pan or two.

    3. Put cash in your wallet.

    4. Pack your scanties and your panties and go camping, but not too far from civilization..

Everything else you need will become apparent over the course of the next few days, and you'll spend much of the trip acquiring it.

Just don't forget tip number 3....;)
  • Figure out what you need for all utility runs. Take some food, stuff to cook with and some basic toiletries. The rest of all the stuff, just wait and make some lists while you're out. Hate to see recommendations that ou may never have a need for.
  • Ace hardware carries a brown sewer hose (don't remember brand) that is a good quality. In-line water filter is good. Water pressure regulator (watts adjustable) your water hose (white) not a garden hose. Wheel chocks ( I'm assuming a trailer?) If you are using this for weekends and holidays, by all means - take extra or older things from the house and buy new for your house.

Unfortunately my local Walmart is tiny and has almost nothing in the RV department. What about Amazon? I have a Prime membership and I'm not afraid to use it. :)

    Amazon-Amazon-Amazon!

Amazon junkie here too...just ordered a Camco outdoor RV mat from 'em.

Paper plates, Get good ones. Pots and pans. Get the ones out of your house that you do't use. Sheets, and blankets. Get the old ones out of your house, same for towels, and wash cloths. DO NOT go out and buy any thing until you have searched you stick house for it. If you are like us. All you will need to buy for the TT, is a sewer hose, drinking hose, and sewer chemicals. Everthing else we pretty much had extra of in the stick house.
  • If you go to the RV section in the Walmart automotive department, you will probably find most everything you need to get started. I just did.
