Our kids are grown and gone, but the decision between 5er and MH came down to usuage. We spend around 30-35 nights per year in the 5er, but are only on the road maybe 10 days and 2,500 miles. Did not see the need for another motorized vehicle that would sit idle 355 days per year and that few miles. Had our travels been in excess of 10,000 miles per year then a MH would have been a consideration.
There are many different configurations for bunkhouse 5ers. Some have bunks on both sides so that you can partition one side from the other giving a little privacy. Look, look, look, at as many models and plans as you can find and decide what you think will work best.
A MH would probably be more comfortable for 4 on long trips, but a crew cab truck is also pretty comfortable. I use mine to carry 4 large men (including myself) to our deer camp and back each year, 350 miles each way. Not bad at all. And when towing the 5er on trips with just my DW and and our 75# dog and maybe a grandkid, we often travel 8-10 hours a day with no problem.
