Seems like a simple enough question I know. But I don't know the answer and I'm curious. YEARS ago (2006), I booked a full hookup campsite just to see what it was like. It was my first full hookup ever and I was, well a bit excited. I could use all the water and electricity I wanted. :) Anyway I thought I'd hookup the slinky as it I wanted to try out everything about full hookup.I figured the proper way to hook to the sewer was to slide the donut onto the smooth attachment at the end of the slinky, and then put it down the hole. But the donut wouldn't fit in the hole. :h In the end I just put the slinky away and only pulled it out when it was time to dump.Since that day I have never left the slinky hooked up unless it was time to drain the tanks. This wasn't really because of my donut experience but it's just the way I do it. But I've always wondered what I was doing wrong. So my questions to you all is "how do you use the donut"? or what was I possibly doing wrong?Am I supposed to put the donut on the slinky and then in the hole? Or was I possibly supposed to put the donut in the hole and then force the slinky into it?Thanks

Sometimes you need a screw-in type adapter.

My sewer hose is always hooked up in the wet compartment and has a plastic 90deg. elbow on the sewer end. If I need the donut I put it on first and then put into the sewer line at the site. If I need a longer hose I carry a 20' extension in a 5 gal bucket and that connects between the tank fitting and the normal sewer hose. DW was a RN so I had to always use rubber gloves when paying with the sewer lines. Good practice for all.

For me I find it easier to put the donut into the sewer inlet (hole) first, then push the slinky fitting into the donut. That way it doesn't seem such a struggle to compress an expanded donut into the sewer inlet.

The donut does not go all the way in the hole. Just the beveled part will insert into the drain, them sorta mash it down so that it sticks. Most of the donut will still be sticking up out of the drain pipe.

It is kinda like pouring pee out of a boot with the instructions on the sole. :)

I use a 90 degree elbow that has both 3" and 4" flanges on it. Haven't found an RV park yet that it didn't fit just fine. Never used a donut.

You have to lick the donut before inserting into the sewer connection. This lubes it and gets it ready! :E :W

I've never used the donut after our first trip, but I do have one. Our first travel trailer came with it. The dealership we bought it from owned a campground and we got 2 free nights of camping to try everything out. They did the PDI at the campsite. The dealer told me that it fits into the sewer inlet and then you put the stinky slinky into the donut. He did that part, so I didn't experience it. I bought something similar to this after the trip.

One time I wasn't able to get the elbow to screw into the sewer inlet, the inlet was just too short and I couldn't get the threads on. I tried the donut, but it wouldn't fit, the inlet was too narrow. Fortunately we've never had that problem since.

I believe you can buy the elbow with the graduated threads separately. It makes it a lot easier than using the donut.

I think there must be different sizes of sewer donuts. I bought one when we first started full timing because it was required at the RV park we were staying in. I have never found another RV park where it will fit into the hole more than 1/2 inch or so.

The donut fits ON the hole and you put a heavy weight on top of the elbow to press down...

Screw in is best but that works too

NOTE: some sewer dumps the smooth stepped adapter will seal well enough though I would not mind putting an "O" ring (or flat ring) on the thing to improve the seal (The ring should fit around the largest segment to fit in the pipe and seal to the top of the pipe.. Of course this assumes the pipe is in good condition)

Thanks everyone that's what I figured. It was years ago but I guess I just wasn't pushing it down hard enough to get it to start in the hole.
