Mail. What are you doing about your mail? We left for a 10 week trip one year and the very next week I got a jury summons I did not know about until we met up with neighbors who collected it for us and then met us in Alabama for week 8 of our trip. Do you have children in the area to collect it and handle or forward it to you? Use a mail service? That is the big issue for me on long trips.
Do you have all your bills set up for on line payments? Banking on line too? Do you have someone you trust to keep an eye on your home?
We use the RVPARKY app for our phones to find parks on our route. We rarely make reservations unless it is our destination and we plan on stays of 3 or more days. We don't go on holiday weekends or at the least we have secured a site for those times. Never been shut out of a park doing that on the road. We start looking about 3pm to be off the road by 5 at the latest and we call ahead to the park for availability. We never leave earlier than 9am. That way we miss morning rush hour.
Try to travel the seconday roads as much as you can. The interstates are boring.Planning the route is no biggie. I usually look for an interesting way to go in the evening and use google maps and trip advisor to see what is along the route.
Are you members of Passport America or Coast to Coast or Good Sam? look into them. Passport America can be very cost effective for overnight stays. You will get the hang of it as you go. A roadside assistance policy and a good credit card are necessities too.
