How do you handle grey water (family of 5)

I guess it is the nature of the beast-- 5 people in a Puma 21 footer, sleeps 6. Unless we are at a resort, the grey water always backs up. I saw people at the camp ground this time with blue portable tanks that you hook to TV hitch and dump, but I believe I read those are for black water. We haven't had a black water problem yet.

This last time the grey water was backed up in the tub a bit and only 2 people had showered the whole time!

Grey water backs up after 1.5 days. Can I use one of those portable blue tanks to dump grey water?

What is the trick here? Thanks.
  • You have a 32 gal gray tank. The us government say a family of 4 uses about 80 - 100 gal of water a day. You need to change your ways when you are camping.
Yes you can use the blue tank for gray.
  • If you don't already have one, the Oxygenics shower head really cuts down on water use. I use a dishpan in the sink for dishwashing/washing hands. Rather than dumping dirty dishwater water down the sink drain when finished, I dump it in the commode. Helps keep the black tank level up also.

Not sure why you cannot use it for black, but then I'd do the grey to clean it out??? Doubt the tank cares what you put in it.
  • Ok, so that's the trick then-- use the blue portable tank to dump grey water? Thanks!
  • I hold the black water till I can dump. Blue tote is gray water only.
