How to make a quick trip when you don't have time to drive

I fully expect to explore my state and surrounding states with five hours or so. I'm referring to destinations that are 12 hr+ drives. Just too much road time. Hope to retire in a few years, so I'll have the time then, but for now would like to visit some of the west without driving.
