- dcmac214ExplorerKnives work pretty good, too. Heavy blade better than thin.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIBack in my 9 to 5 days, there was a fellow that worked in our machine shop that opened his daily lunchtime can of soup the same way, except that he used a spinning grinding wheel to do the work. I have no idea why he didn't just bring in a can opener.
- wny_pat1ExplorerI had a very nice German can opener (stainless steel) similiar to the one the P-38 was copied from. It doesn't pop open by itself like the P-38 did.
- HorsedocExplorer IISuggest a piece of tape on the P-38. The tape will likely come off after laying in a paddy for a couple of hours however - but who could eat after laying in those things anyway?

Well, there's three minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Just buy a P-38 or P-51 can opener at a military surplus store. You can carry it on your key ring and its a lot lighter than carrying around a block of concrete.
I used to carry a P-38 on my key chain, but after it opened and stabbed me in the leg a few times, I quit that.
I got mine out of a case of C-Rats in 1966. It is probably in a box around here somewhere...
Now, I carry a Leatherman Wave. It has a very good can/bottle opener.

All that canned sauerkraut...I'm gonna starve.

Well if you had a can opener, you would put a hole in that rubber boat and drown. ;)
