How to save tank space?

Teach the youngsters water conservation.........

Don't run the water while:
Brushing teeth, combing hair, washing/showering etc.

As suggested water conservation is a good lesson.

Teach the family to shower by getting wet then turn off water, soap up and then rinse. Same for hair washing.

When the kids were little we put water in the sink or a bowl for them to wash hands in. We kept the same water for a few washes.

We also saved some water in the tub after little ones baths. We used that water for extinguishing the fire before we went to bed.

Now there are usually just the two of us but we are still diligent about water use.

We just went 7 days without using up our water or filling our holding tanks. We used the park showers.

Also you may want to buy a honey tank. That will make it a bit easier if your tanks fill in a campsite. However you would be "SOL" if you are not near a "dump station" ( no pun intended)

Not only the youngsters... I've seen where the adults need to observe some water conservation too.

What's your current water usage habits in the trailer?

I'll bet you could do with a fraction of what you currently put down the drain and still enjoy the experience.. ;)

It all boils down to what you need to enjoy your camping experience and what your available resources are..

Use the parks facilities as much as you feel comfortable with.. If that's not at all.. Well, you'll have to adjust, won't you?? :)

Some use those blue tote buggy things and haul their stuff to the dump station in the park. Other's hitch up and haul the RV to the dump station..

What my dad told us kids was if we used up the water in the tank, we had to haul the 5 gallon jug to fill it back up.. If we filled up the holding tank, we had the 5 gallon bucket to haul to the dump station... Guess where most of my water went?? Yes, in the parks facilities! :)

Learned that as a kid and don't mind at all doing it as an adult..

I'll use my trailers facilities of course, but when I can use the parks, I'll use it too..

The big one I finally figured out is the bathroom sink. In my RV the bathroom sink dumps into the black tank.

I stopped washing my hands in that sink and stopped brushing my teeth there also. Made a big difference in how fast my black tank filled up.
This change alone added days to how long I could go without having to dump the black tank.

Have the kiddies wash hands and brush teeth in the kitchen sink which dumps into the gray. And of course 'change the habit' of leaving the water run while brushing!

At CG's - shower at the CG showers and encourage kids to use the bathroom facilities there during the day also.

Get a portable waste tank. Preferably a Barker and use it as required.

Use campground facilities as much as possible.

If using the RV shower, take Navy showers.

Wash dishes in a dish pan and dump the water in the toilet.

Use outside shower to wash hands, feet, the dog, and etc.

Dont know if its allowed where you camp but we always just leave our grey water valve open and let it out on the ground. We mostly boondock. as far as the black goes, most likely a portable waste tank will do.

With a 30 gal gray tank you would best be suited for a portable waste tank. You will fill the gray tank in two days or less if you conserve and if you bathe daily. If you don't, well I guess that is a personal choice but doesn't work for me. Dumping gray water on the ground is prohibited in most locales. Check local ordinance before doing it or you could get into trouble.
