How to winterize your house while heading south

We are planning a trip south this winter and will be our first trip away from our house for several months. We live in Central Oregon and have many days below freezing. What preparation do you follow to winterize your house. We will have friends that can check on the house once a week. I am interested in things like turning off water and what to do with washer, heater, and drains and water heater. Your input will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance ...........

  • I shut the water off, drain the hot water heater and keep the house on 50 degrees.

drain it all down and forget it. I have done that for over 30 years with my cabin, doesn't hurt anything.
