As a retired military veteran, you are entitled to use the U.S. Military campgrounds. They are located all over the country and most are very nice. We use them quite often and also stay in them all winter.
About the best place to find out about them is the U.S. Military Campgrounds website. The website is not connected with the military other than it was developed and owned by an retired military person who does an excellent job of running and maintaining the site. It is probably the best military campground site around. I would encourage you to take a look and join if you see fit.
