Interior door latch sticks out to far / what's the fix?

The earth is not going to come to an end over this problem but I hope somebody has had the same problem and might now what to do about it.

My (lack of better word) door latch striker sticks out to far. Catches clothes sometimes, etc.

Afraid of pounding it in with rubber hammer. Take it off and bend it with pliers? What would you do?

This part is what sticks out to far
  • Trico makes smaller ones. Sized to fit RV door frame materials.
  • Is it just the little tab in the center that sticks out too far?
For any alterations I would remover the striker plate and clamp it in a bench vice. I had to alter mine a little for a different reason.

Can you post a pic of yours in place, to show what part sticks out too far? Not clear on exactly what catches clothes. It obviously has to be positioned to catch the door striker.
  • OP here...

Thanks for all the replies. All good ideas. Thank you.

Catching clothes, long sleeve seem to find the lip.

Being they are only couple bucks each, going to take off and

    1. Bend by something while in a vice, so only lip bends over. OR
    2. Grind off lip OR
    3. Find the RV model that's smaller.

    Thanks again
  • Stricker does not have to be for RV. many interior doors have similar.
  • Take some silicone and put a bead behind the lip that sticks out a little farther than the lip. When you walk by, your clothes will hit the bead of silicone and skip over the lip.
