Hmm I hope you like malware :) An old IT pro here, this is generally not recommended unless you're super careful. If updates are causing problems it may be because of corruption in your OS and it's time to reinstall. I update all my systems (eight of them, from XP to Mac to Windows 7 64bit to Android tablet) and they all work happily.
And by the way, by "updates" I also meant antivirus updates, not just OS updates. Both of these suck bandwidth.
