so, I do what you just said, and I went over this month evidently, so I paid an extra $10. Not a big deal, I like to stay connected for bills, and Facebook updates of my grandkids :D
Those background updates, probably. They'll kill ya. Also if you have malware and don't know it sometimes they use bandwidth. But to cut down on malware you need OS and virus and malware updates. Darned if you do and darned if you don't.
Best to keep a close eye on it and use it sparingly as discussed above. Or use a smartphone or tablet, they generally use less bandwidth. Some have unlimited bandwidth and laptop tether, also discussed above.
