Jay Flight 287BHSW

anyone have any reviews for the Jay Flight 287BHSW? we are new to the rving world and looking to buy this for our family of 4. this is the only travel trailer that we can find that has double bunk beds, a shower verses a tub and is light enough for our SUV to pull. thanks for your reviews.
  • The Jayco 28BHBE is similar but at 6000 lbs you need a capable SUV with a high payload capacity to pull it safely. I can't speak for those slide models but we have had our Flight for 2 years with very little problems and we love it.
  • Forgot to mention the shower. How old is your youngest? My son was 4 when we first bought our TT and we gave him showers despite the TT having a tub. He wasn't old enough to shower himself and we had to restrict his water use at CGs that didn't have full hookups. We have yet to use the tub in our TT...it's too small for an adult and that much water is going to full up your grey tank quickly.
  • Looks like a nice trailer, but I'll second the SUV comment. When you're loaded up you'll be pushing 7000 lbs or more, and your tongue weight will probably run 850-1000 lbs. Check your available payload and receiver ratings to see how close you'll be. Most SUVs have 1600 lbs or less, and that will need to account for the tongue weight, hitch, and everything else in the vehicle (people, pets, beer kegs, etc.).
  • I have the 28 bhbe, which has a nearly identical floor plan, though yours is about 600lbs lighter. I would echo what others have said about payload weight on the SUV. Best thing to do would be to weigh your tow vehicle with all family and gear that you would pack into it for camping and subtract that number from the gross vehicle weight rating that you can get from the manufacturer (this is the max weight the vehicle is designed to carry, including full tank of fuel, all passengers, and payload). The difference is how much available payload you would have left for the tongue weight of the trailer, hitch, etc. I had a RAM1500 when I purchased my trailer, and I am now in the process of getting a 2500 because the 1500 was overweight once I had everything in. Rookie mistake on my part as this was my first purchase as well.
  • You have been warned about weight, and I don't have that exact model, but I do have a Jay Flight that I bought new a little over 3 years ago. I have had ZERO problems that weren't created by my own ignorance, arrogance or just generally stupidity.
Yes, I have had to have some repairs done to my trailer, but they were all of my own doing. Everything works as it should, and is still in great shape. Even my non-camping friends have commented on how nice it is and how nice it looks.
