I've been in the ranching business and I've owned rentals in CA. I have to admit if I was renting a house or selling a bale of hay if I knew the customer was really liking my product I sure wouldn't discount it. If I thought he had money I'd want to tie it up as soon as possible. Don't ever tell a salesman you like the product. In fact I find lots wrong with the product. I sit down with my DW at home decide what I should pay and make a take it or leave it offer. I'd only pay that $1000 on acceptance. I purchased my MH over the phone 2 weeks after I looked at it. Saleman took loan ap over the phone. Called me back in about 15 minutes. I got 4% loan and he got $1000 deposit by Visa. He knew if he didn't come through on the phone I was a lost customer. If I had walked on that lot and told him how much I liked that MH and I'd be back I doubt he would have accepted my offer. If I had made that offer in person he would have tried to grind me and probably never accepted a low ball offer. I could have wasted hours of my time. They don't need a deposit. If they have your name and social thy can figure it out.
