OP Here.......
Its home all is OK
No other money changed hands except some accessories we bought.
Rest of deal went better than 1st halve by a long shot.
But a good thing also happened… when I parked the sales guy came out and asked “do you still think your old hitch and controller is going to work? I answered “why not” He did show me some links that showed signs of wear. Several links were way beyond egg shaped and some metal had mushroomed out from wear at bottom of links. I said “OK I’ll get some new chain”
Sales guy then said we usually give a starter kit (cheap sewer hose, fresh water hose, couple rolls of expensive toilet paper etc) but maybe you might want this? He showed me the hitch system (complete) that it came in with. It looked new like the rest of trailer, brand New. Said its yours if you want it, no charge. No brainer for me.
We did sign that “at no additional cost” and we assume all responsibility. Bolted it on just like it came in with, so no new holes drilled. My old controller according to their tech guy works better than some of the new ones. Best we can figure is controller is around a 1994 model.
We did buy a Rino sewer hose and some type of sewer hose ramp thing that supposed to work better than the old accordion style I have, we’ll see. I hate to get the sewer hose stretched out and it flops over or out of the ramp thing. Also got couple tank valves to keep as spares. Found out the hard way years ago that they don’t always break at the most convenient time or place and very good to have spare.
After we signed final paper work and no other money going to change hands other than our cashiers check I asked why do they make it so hard to buy from them?
IMO their answer was common sense after hearing their side of the rv business. NOT saying I agree…
They have people stopping in everyday and say they will be back. But never do. They have people that will spend ½ day looking at every unit they have never to be seen again. The lookie-loos not familiar with RV’s also cause damage. Like a guy that hooked up a hose to the sewer flush to see how it worked and caused a lot of damage. So they have to keep a eye on people, just can’t let them stroll all over. One lady stole a shelve out of a medicine cabinet. So they have found the best way is to greet people and see what they are interested in. After about an hour anybody can separate who are interested and who is going to be looking for the next 3 months if they buy at all. So he separates them by asking if they want to put down some money. If they aren’t willing to put some money down, he doesn’t have what want or customer is not ready. But if customer is willing to put down some money, he’ll work with them all he can. OK that’s from his point of view, not saying I agree or disagree.
Also found out, which I find interesting. Many RV dealers when taking in used will make it look good. But will not fix much. They'll only have 2 or 3 hours into cleaning before it hits the lot. But fixing stuff other than looks costs them money, so they'll wait till buyer comes along. Saves them putting money into unit before they will get any money out of it. I guess more and more are going to this as a way of keeping costs down. And many buyers will say as a bargaining chip; Mr RV dealer if you fix this and this I'll buy it. So both sides of the coin I guess.
(side note) So if RV's have feelings our old majestic feels bad tonight. Totally blocked in by a newer one, just sitting there feeling so rejected.
