Had a dealer several years ago that had an RV we liked and we checked it out and found it to be what we wanted. Gave them a deposit and made an offer. They declined and I asked for the deposit back. They said we'll counter and I said no thanks. In came the sales manager and said " You wouldn't go to the grocery store and offer $1 for a $2 loaf of bread would you?" I said yes if I thought they would take it. So they begrudgingly gave us the deposit back and followed us all the way to the car. Later that evening I got a call from the salesman asking if I would just meet them half way. I said no, but I would still stay with my offer. He called again fifteen minutes later saying if I was a man of my word they would accept my offer. We closed the deal. Always know what you are willing to spend and stay with it, even if you offer low and meet in the middle.
