I am camping in "3 mile campground" which is 3 miles from the east entrance. the site has the "bear box" and they only allow "hard campging" no "soft camping"
I wonder if its just a precausionary measure.
The actual park boundaries make up about 25% of what is considered the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. You are in grizzly country within that larger boundary and beyond. The bears do not stop at man's lines. While the chance of an encounter is rare, it is smart to be "Bear Aware" as you become a part of the ecosystem. :) :)
