The explanation for the Fishing Bridge restrictions are reasonable, yet the other campground is about a mile away.....bears don't travel? It may have sounded like I was dismissing the dangers of bears, but generally those stories of injuries occur when people are doing stupid things. We live in the west, camp at Yosemite every Thanksgiving and have been to every park in the western U.S. several times over the last 50 years. You can tell all the stories you want, but the bears are just not that dangerous or prevalent in the campgrounds. When they do show up, they're transported into the back country.
And by asking the question and listening to what folks here are recommending, the OP is ensuring that (s)he won't be one of those people doing stupid things. I agree not to get all crazy and worried about the bears, but knowing proper "bear etiquette" is only going to help.
