Where is your rig stored. If at home, it might be possible for you to make your first "trip" without pulling out of the drive. That would get you more comfortable with the operation.
If you can't, you'll learn as you go; keep the manual handy. Our first trip was from North Carolina to California and back - an 8-week trip. We felt like experts, when we got home.
If you need to use heat at night, your house batteries should be sufficient to run the furnace. I assume your truck's alternate will be charging them while you drive.
